Foundation Taxus for Hope,
This is who we are and what we do:

Taxus for Hope (Taxus = Yew tree) is a Dutch foundation committed to fight the battle against cancer. We do this by collecting the new seasons’ trimmings from the Taxus Baccata hedges and trees throughout the country.

The young twigs of the Taxus Baccata (Yew tree) contain an important compound called Baccatine, which inhibits the mitosis of cancer cells. This compound can be applied by the pharmaceutical industry as an important component for chemotherapy.

To produce 1 chemotherapy treatment for a single patient, we need 1 cubic meter of Taxus trimmings. Therefore it’s of great importance we collect as many trimmings as possible to achieve the highest possible goal in the active fight against cancer.

The facts, our dream and your help

1 out of 3 people is confronted and affected, be it directly or indirectly, by cancer. Supporting the battle against cancer is therefore more important than ever. Recent research indicated that in The Netherlands alone we have enough Taxus Baccata available to yield 1.2 million kilograms of suitable trimmings. It just needs to be trimmed and collected, and once collected this converts into about 10.000 chemotherapy treatments a year!

It is our dream to reach for the highest goal and collect as many suitable Taxus Baccata trimmings as possible. Wouldn’t it be amazing if we can reach this goal together with your help, and make chemotherapy accessible to as many people as possible ?
